THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
Horse behaviorist Sharon Wilsie asked me to portray her teacher, Rocky. As a child, Sharon had an encounter with a rare wild Tarpan horse in a zoo, and she remembers that was a pivotal moment when she felt a kinship with some of the most ancient origins of horses. Later in her life she began to document the body language and communication between horses and she developed a method of teaching humans how to understand and express what she calls Horse Speak®. When she found her horse partner Rocky, she knew he was her soulmate in part because his bloodlines descend from the Tarpan horses.
I created Rocky in a celebration of the four seasons of his home in Vermont. AA peacock feather in his mane is a reminder of a powerful healing message when he nearly died from colic. All of these images weave together in a glimpse of their mutual destiny.
