This painting was a complex creation that evolved as I worked. The white elk came to represent many things to me as he appeared in visions and dreams that spoke to my innermost self. As these visions appeared to me, they also began to appear in the textures and colors of the chalk - above his horns, a lion, a man, a unicorn... then in the layers of his soft coat another lion, a swan, and a horse
