This piece was created for a horse-shaped puzzle design for SunsOut puzzle company and was released as a popular puzzle in 2011. The composition gave me the opportunity to create something completely new and different. It was quite a challenge to say the least! It took quite some planning to make the horse a skyscape - weaving in images of a herd of running horses in perspective. The horses in the painting are close to my heart because I photographed them all at the Return to Freedom Wild Horse Sanctuary. The natural behavioral dynamics of the herds and the freedom of the horses running together was rare and beautiful to behold. Their vivid colors of the different types of Wild Horse breeds were also striking and added the drama to this stunning and complex creation.
The composition and poem were inspired by a horse meditation journey with a spirit horse guide that was one of the most profound experiences I have ever had. This painting is just the beginning of what is unfolding from this experience.
The Original Pastel painting is vivid and powerful in its size and impact. The texture of the background is similar to the suede mat which surrounds the art.
