A friend inspired the experience of this horse whose vision came to me in a meditation. He seemed somehow familiar, and the name Elysian came to me. I researched the word and discovered that in Greek Mythology it represents the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and virtuous. The Elysian Fields lie on the western margin of the earth, accessed by crossing the Oceanus, an enormous river encircling the world. Those blessed by the gods are transported there without tasting death, to enjoy an immortality of bliss. Interestingly, Oceanus ruled the seas before Poseidon, who the Greeks believe created the horse... To my knowledge I had never heard this word before, and yet somehow the creation of this beautiful and elusive being seemed to fit this most mysterious of legends.
