I was intrigued by the idea of portraying the viewpoint of the rider in a race. A few references, including a picture taken from the back of a horse - gave me the perspective I needed to attempt the interpretation. I hoped the viewer would virtually feel they were riding the horse themselves, and see the opening they would move into as they rounded the curve. I later asked jockey, Julie Krone if this was an accurate portrayal, and she thought a moment and said, "Actually - to tell you the truth I've never paid attention to what the back of the horse's head looks like!"
