The Equine Art of Kim McElroy

Gateway to Heaven

These wonderful miniatures horses were brothers. They lived at the beautiful Willow Brook Farm. In attempting to convey the magic of the farm and its inhabitants, I came up with the idea of painting the gate as the symbol of the beauty and harmony that lay within.  One day while we were visiting and photographing the property, a cloud formation of the type called "Mare''s Tails" appeared.  While we admired the clouds, Dottie told me that soon after her father had passed, she had been blessed with a profound vision of an eagle that flew through her garden, which she felt was a sign from her father.  As a surprise for her, I added the hidden image of an eagle flying in the clouds.

"Gateway to Heaven"

"Small friend, from you we learn that a horse without a rider is always a horse, but a rider without a horse is only a man."
