I was inspired to paint this horse from a photograph I took at an Arabian horse show. The horse had just completed a performance in the hot sun of the Arizona desert. I decided to transform him into a beautiful war horse who impatiently awaits his masters bidding. The bridle was adapted from historical drawings. The original pastel was created on white silk, giving the painting a dramatic three-dimensional quality enhanced by the iridescent highlights of the pastel.
